AMS moves up to 12th place on the list of the nation’s top 75 employers in the annual Social Mobility Foundation Employer Index 2024
23 October 2024, London — The eighth annual Social Mobility Employer Index, published last week, shows AMS moving up to 12th place, rising through its ranks for a third consecutive year.
The Index is an annual benchmarking and assessment tool for employers and is the UK’s leading authority on employer-led social mobility. This year 150 organisations entered, employing just under one million people and 26 organisations who, like AMS, are measuring their class pay gap. Results have shown that entrants from the technology sector increased by 60% since 2023. AMS has submitted its own data relating to social mobility since 2022.
The Index uses the latest research and best practice to measure entrants’ performance in eight areas of employer led social mobility, ranging from school outreach and work with young people, to recruitment and selection, to pay, progression and retention. The accompanying Index report also features best practice and practical steps all employers can take to improve social mobility.
Measures taken by AMS throughout 2024 have included leveraging the work carried out by AMS Talent Lab and its Public Sector Resourcing (PSR) business as well as its partnerships and collaboration with key social enterprises, charities, and small businesses. In addition, AMS has renewed its focus on data collection allowing it to understand the socio-economic makeup of their workforce in the UK&I region. AMS also published its first Class Pay Gap in 2023.
Matthew Rodger, Chief Commercial & Corporate Development Officer and ExCo lead for Social Mobility at AMS commented: “The Index is the UK’s leading authority on employer-led social mobility and the bellwether of best practice within the social mobility space for UK businesses and I could not be prouder to share the news that AMS have risen through the ranks to an exceptional 12th place. This is a significant achievement and amounts to a jump of 27 places from last year where we ranked at 39. The rationale that lies behind the Index is that we all share a responsibility to create workplaces where everyone can thrive, no matter their background. Such clarity of focus and belief lies at the heart of AMS’s social mobility strategy and talks to our desire to champion change and level the playing field for the world of work. Although we are rightly delighted that AMS has been recognised for the work we are doing in this space we are ever mindful that there’s still so much more we can collectively achieve. Sincere congratulations to all the organisations on this list – AMS is proud to share this platform with you as together we can strive for meaningful change.”
Sarah Atkinson who is the CEO of The Social Mobility Foundation went on to add: “Congratulations to AMS for placing in the top 75 in this year's Social Mobility Employer Index, coming 12th. This significant achievement, improving on last year's placing, speaks to the firm's sustained commitment to social mobility and creating a culture where everyone can thrive."
